Bio
Rob Gruner is a Dutch painter and collage artist. He was very artistic from a young age, with painting especially fascinated him.
However, the difficult years after the war and the fact that he lost his father early on, prevented him from going to Art school after High school.
As he got older, painting started to play an increasingly important role in his life. In the eighties he still attended the City Academy in Maastricht.
He then focused entirely on the visual art from within, and started to express feelings in abstract forms and representations…, often obtained through meditative means.
He works exclusively with high-quality acrylic paint, and over the years has made the processing of this material more comprehensive through all kinds of self-developed techniques. read more
Art Statement
I live and work in the Netherlands; I work under the name of Rob Gruner Art. I create contemporary abstract art with acrylic paint on canvas, paper and panel. Emotion means painting to me. I choose abstract painting in which a synergy of form, color and material represent a new reality without getting stuck in traditions that have already showed us the same things over and over again. While I am painting, the elements almost automatically find their way on the canvas, on which colors and tones adjust constantly.
The former no man’s land slowly starts to take the shape of a new world…, many times astonishing myself and those who step into the newly created world while contemplating the painting! With the same intention, but now with pieces of paper, I make abstract collages; pictures made by sticking pieces of printed matters, coloured paper and so on.
