Visual expressionism in my art. My work has evolved from expressive representations strongly influenced by primitive art to the new aesthetics of visual expressionism. The works from the NEW MUTATIONS series are highly physical, joyful and abstract. The effect of depth is important to me, which I achieve through various textures. They give the images an almost sculptural form. I focus on combining traditional and modern techniques.
The paintings from the NEW MUTATIONS series change depending on the viewing angle. I achieve this by using metallic surfaces, structures on canvas. When you look at them from different perspectives – they change, mutate. Hence the name of the series. This results from the materials used and the effects of light reflection on shiny and textured surfaces. I play with mutations, I want to show that everything around us is constantly changing. This is my unique approach to visual expressionism.
Visual expressionism is a style of painting that does not strive for a faithful reproduction of reality, but for expressing strong emotions and inner experiences of the creator. The subjective feeling of the world is at the center of my interest – what happens in the human psyche, not what can be observed from the outside.
In visual expressionism, colors are intense and often unnatural – they are meant to evoke an impression, not imitate nature. Forms can be deformed, exaggerated, often deliberately ugly or disturbing. I consciously give up technical correctness in order to express tension, fear, anger or existential anxiety.
I am not talking about beauty in the traditional sense, but about authenticity. In expressionism, the painting becomes a means of emotional expression – not an illustration, but an independent message of the creator’s inner state. Visual expressionism as a style allows me freedom and this type of expression.
