TOUCH THE LANDSCAPE
Both natural landscape and painted landscape are perceived primarily through sight. In the series “Touch the Landscape”, Jarosław Filipek departs from traditional conventions of landscape painting, proposing to viewers a broadened way of perception. The title of the exhibition conceals the ambiguity of the word “to touch”. By creating works with a rich, almost relief structure, the artist encourages viewers to touch, discover the landscape in various ways and explore multi-sensory perception through the prism of abstract objects. These paintings can be both viewed and touched in the Public Library in Izabelin.
The landscape is not static – the wind moves the clouds, light creates shadows, is reflected in the water, reflections are created. Similarly, the works from the series “Touch the Image” change when the viewer moves. The works dynamically respond to the change of perspective when we approach them, shift the angle of view, or change the point of view. The effect of variability is achieved thanks to the play of light and a unique painting technique, combining structural forms created from a mixture of acrylic and sand, with the use of original paints and varnishes. These paintings can also be viewed and touched in the Public Library in Izabelin.
“Touch the Landscape” is a unique series of paintings… for touching. Textures create shadows, surfaces covered with metallic paints are opalescent, and those covered with fluorescent paints – glow. The paintings shine thanks to varnishes with a high level of light reflection, and when using light-absorbing components – they become matte, suggesting satin. This variety of surfaces interacts not only with sight, but also with touch and hearing. The paintings can be admired and touched in the Public Library in Izabelin.
TOUCH THE PICTURE
I invite you to touch the works. Viewers can freely feel the roughness of textures, the smoothness of shiny surfaces, the satinness of matte structures and clear convexities. When you run your hand over the object, you can hear the sound – the structures you touch vibrate, shimmer and rustle on the canvas. The series refers to sonorism – a trend in Polish contemporary music (including Penderecki, Kilar, Górecki, Serocki, Dobrowolski), in which not only the timbre of the sound was important, but also the specific sound of the instrument. Similarly, in this series, the variability of the timbre – both in the context of light, sound and structure – is crucial for broadening and deepening perception. These paintings can be viewed and touched in the Public Library in Izabelin. So Touch the landscape…
