New artwork by Ana-Maria Panaitescu
I am very interested in the ways that an object can be tangential to the borders of the canvas and I study this, often. A very simple composition and a very simple chromatic scale, a grisaille: white, black and ochre. When the things are simple, it can happen to be boring for the spectators. So, this is why “simple” is not easy to work with.

I think the objects from the church ritual are very proper for this simplicity: a pot, a Chalice and pillars.
The pillar has a connection with the idea of isolation, an idea that is very common these days. Hundreds of years ago, there were some Saints that chose to live on the top of a pillar, it was another kind of isolation, an isolation that they assumed they were searching for. They used to live like this, for years, in their search for God and spiritual growth.
Very simple way of living and very complex at the same time. This is why I felt that choosing the grisaille and letting these objects fill the space are very proper.
