The paintings are unique portraits of cities.
Every city is different. Not as urban planning and architecture. People are different, different ways of living, different customs. It is not the residents that shape the city, it forms them as a whole community, groups but also individuals.
It is fascinating in traveling to discover this sphere that you can’t see, which you can experience individually by looking at people, and actually looking at them. It is a colorful, diverse world and always hiding something from visitors. Each city has its taboo, its secrets hidden – because each city lives its own intimate life.

Jan Astner exhibition at GoodTime Hotel is a unique show in a historic place. We all know it: cities have their smells, their palette of colors, mysterious nooks, breathing ugliness alleys, manicured lawns and mountains of rubbish on the sidewalks, neighborhoods of satiety and poverty. It is we, their creators and inhabitants, who make them what they are, disposable in our own different, fascinating ways. They create us, our beauty and ugliness.
But let’s look at cities a little differently. Just like Jan Astner exhibition suggests in his Voluptuous towns. He’s watching them. Maybe as a traveler collecting impressions? Maybe as an adventure seeker? Maybe he wants to find answers to existential questions in them?
