Interview with Miya Ozaki

30 March 2020 Action Painting Process Painting Realizacje

Exhibition Space of natural Environment

O-A: What is art to you? Is creating an urge, necessity or maybe an incontournable, essential way of life?
Miya Ozaki: It’s my own life. “Youth is the gift of nature, but age is a work of art (Stanislaw Jerzy Lec)”. Indeed, I have various requirements overlapping each day, at the accumulation is concentrated in the art work.
.

O-A: What names do you give your artworks?
Miya Ozaki: The title, about it, “water – blue love”, “sense”, “empty (空 / KU), “nature” …, I post words that elicit signs related to them (as an introduction to many unknown audiences). However, the first important thing is that “Independent”, the spirit of my work is always independent. And more “Humbly on the earth”.
.

O-A: What wouldn’t you do without art? What did you discover, achieve with it? Who or what inspired you artistically; a person, artist, event, experience…
Miya Ozaki: In Japan (my generation), Calligraphy has been a lesson since childhood. And it was one of the subjects from elementary school to junior high school. So, many Japanese can write correct and high-quality characters.
How to develop that lesson as an art is a personal step.
I was interested in the formation of letters, hieroglyphs, and developed them into abstract expressions. And the important thing is the act of “polishing the ink (墨を磨る)”. At this time, concentrate my spirit. This is the same as training for “Zazen (座禅)”. Drop a drop of black ink on white paper. That leads to everything. Therefore, if I do not omit the work in the production, human desires will strongly appear in the foreground, and the work will be a dignified thing.
.

I needed to eliminate that human desire, so I began to practice Zazen(座禅) and studyed Nāgārjuna’s Buddhist philosophy “Empty (空/クウ)”. Later it became Rudolf Steiner ‘s philosophy and pedagogy, and then André Breton ‘s Surrealism. Also, since worked in advertising production, I have been interested in environmental issues and have acted with groups of such activities. And I am particular about “one drop of water”. I developed a new product.(*Produce 「水咲/SUISHO」― ”Relaxing Vessel – Being close to drops of water” – SHIGARAKI ware and ceramic art )
Through that background, my artistic activities is going from “Stationary art”, “Conceptual art”, and “Installation”, social interaction “Socially Engaged Art” has become more and more important, and the need for further learning has emerged every day. Authorship (being an author) and a challenge to the art market. To claim to be in the realm of art as an independent artist.
