Interview with Alexandra Kordas

O-A: Who or what inspired you artistically; a person, artist, event, experience…

Alexandra Kordas: Frieda Kahlo inspired me the most from all artists. Even we are born in other parts of the world to totally different times lines , I feel myself close to her. A reason for this might be that we both had to stay in bed with corsets for many months of our life and that this had had a big impact of the life of both of us. If I would have the possibility to meat Frieda and ask her a question , I would like to ask her, how she could deal with all this emotional and physical pain that had happened to her………and still be able to paint such power and colorful paintings which are full of life and energy

O-A: What is a vivid memory of a remark concerning your art that got stuck with you?

Alexandra Kordas: My most vivid memory concerning my art was that when I painted my work ” Frieda” I had very much my friend Patricia in my mind, who just had been death shortly. When the painting was finished , I though to name it by her nick name, but then I decided better not to do it. Two years later I sold it out of a coincidence to her former husband. As I had told it no one I was very surprised about it.

O-A: How do you search for inspiration and themes for your work?

Alexandra Kordas: I never search for inspiration and themes for my work. It comes to me in a very natural way mostly out of the blue from deep inside me. Since I started doing my art I am having so many ideas that I have to write them down in a book in order not to forget what I want to do once after the other. Very often I do wake up around 4.00 pm with an idea I want to do soon. Also sometimes when I read the news and I see whats going on in the world , I am getting the idea to do some kind of work. But also I am influenced from material what comes into my eyes. So it can happen I am walking on a beach, picking up a shell or a stone and suddenly I am inspired to do something.

O-A: What names do you give your artworks?

Alexandra Kordas: The names I do give my artwork are mostly very simple and I try to capture the essence of my work in one or two words. Sometimes in english or in german , just how I feel in this moment.

O-A: How has your art changed over time? Why?

Alexandra Kordas: I want to achieve with my art that people hold on for one minute in their life , allowing themselves to feel their emotions. I don’t care if they are disgusted about my work because it makes them feel bad or if they love it because it makes them getting in touch with their inner self. Whats important for me is that the DO FEEL AT ALL and that its me making them feel.

O-A: How do you search for inspiration and themes for your work?

Alexandra Kordas: I am inspired artistically mostly from my inner self, my past and my experience of life. My most interesting discovery is that all the pain I had to suffer transforms now in my inner gold what makes me graceful for each moment I have been alive.
